Impressionist Award winning artist David M. Seward was born in Franklin, Indiana and raised in Indianapolis. He is primarily a Plein air impressionist, oil painter. Much of his work is of the central Indiana landscape, which he has grown up around.
His inspiration comes from a desire to capture the beauty of creation. He appreciates the aesthetic value of space and nature intermixed with the beauty of light. He loves to capture the beautiful land intermingled with man-made structures, especially those aged and worn down. He notices the beauty in these tired, old structures when the sunlight hits them just right. It is light that makes things beautiful.
David’s many accolades as an artist encompass multiple awards from Hoosier Salon, Plein Air Paint-out competitions, Indiana Heritage Arts, and IPAPA. One of his most treasured accomplishments was the acceptance of four of his works into the Painting Indiana III book.
Much of his love of art has come from his father, Tom G. Seward Jr., who taught art at North Central High School. David followed in his father’s footsteps and has been an art teacher at Pike High School for over 25 years. He resides in Zionsville with his wife and three daughters.
