Thomas A. Himsel, a life-long resident of Hendricks County, is an award-winning artist in oil paintings.
His love of the landscape, animals, and the challenge of Mother Nature’s designs inspires him every day. His education at Purdue University, ownership of a landscape firm and retail garden center, and his study with nationally acclaimed artists has honed his skill at examining all aspects of chroma, composition, and values present in a setting.
Thomas has painted extensively in North and Central Americas as well as Europe. His work can be seen at the Brown County Art Gallery.
Artist Statement: It is always a great experience to prepare for the Indiana Heritage Arts Exhibition. Without a doubt, it is always one of, if not the best showing of art, in Indiana each year.
Talented artists bring forth their renditions of landscapes, people, and beloved settings that depict the best of their "eye and strokes." It is an honor for me to stretch my artistic renderings knowing that I may be with my contemporary artists.
We all strive to learn from each other as well as take risks to move beyond what is most familiar to what is most challenging. My lifeblood in painting, is just that, to try new pathways for challenging work.
